I ranted earlier about work but there was highlight of today. I happened to look out the office window and in the car park was a little boy dancing around in a yellow Belle dress. It could also have been a girl with very short hair but either way I was down with it. This is a part of the country that is so behind the times it’s painful so yay!

mainstream tumblr feminism may have many glaring faults but it has bred an army of teenage girls who understand the common ways that misogyny is reinforced in society and who know that they’re better off loving their fellow woman than fighting with her and that’s actually pretty damn revolutionary

Stuck in the middle at work

Ugh today I was surrounded by colleagues having dumb conversations. Growing up fascinated by theatre and then being on Tumblr has made me super aware of how others present themselves and what bullshit people come out with.

Convo #1 - how books are better than e-readers etc

One of the colleagues is of certain age and assumed no one would want to stare at a screen instead of reading a book. I partly agree as I love the feel of a book in my hands but I also love fan fiction. He also proceeded to call modern books a ‘fad’ and that people would one day go back to the classics which really amused me.

Convo #2 - complaining about canteen staff

Then 2 very opinionated staff have decided all the canteen staff are moody bastards and forget that just cause they work in a company canteen doesn’t mean they shouldn’t give good service. I kinda get that as it’s easy to think our staff aren’t the general public so it’s ok. I was more annoyed that they were accusing them of being prejudiced to my colleague because she was Polish and had a ‘proper job’ unlike those in the canteen. They also added that the canteen staff should just go get new jobs if they don’t like where they are. As someone who only just got employment this pissed me off because the job market sucks right now so getting new work is no easy feat
